How to Import Data to Lead Docket
The process for importing data will be about the same for each import type, so for the sake of this outline we will be importing contacts.
- Import Type: Select the type of import from the dropdown options.
- There are two key factors of a successful data import:
- Ensuring your data is in the correct format
- Filling in the required data points
The guide for the data format and required data points can be viewed by clicking View Map.
- The Import Map guide outlines the required data points, the accepted data type (highlighted above in yellow), field limits, and optional data points.
The import will be successful as long as the required data points are filled in with the correct format (data type), optional fields can be left blank.
Data Types:
String (Yes/No, Dropdown/Radio buttons, Text fields)
Number
Boolean
Date & Time
String - Standard text fields, if possible values are defined then the imported data will need to match one of these values.
For example, Marketing Source is a dropdown field with predefined values. On the import map page it is shown as data type string with possible values from the dropdown. The value on your import spreadsheet under the marketing source column will need to match one of the possible values exactly.
Number - Only numerical values are accepted. Some fields will have possible values defined (ex. Severity Level), if that is the case then the data value will need to match one of the possible values.
Boolean - True or False are the only values that are accepted.
Date & Time - Date is accepted in MM/DD/YYYY format, time is accepted in HH:MM AM/PM. Date and time can be written together as MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM AM/PM.
- After reviewing the Import Map guidelines, go back to the import page and click Download Template.
- Open the blank template and copy the data into the appropriate columns. Follow the Import Map guide to ensure all required fields are filled and the data is properly formatted. Save the template spreadsheet.
- Test the upload: Upload the spreadsheet on the import page and make sure Test Mode is checked. Test mode will check if there are any errors with the data format or missing required fields.
If there are any errors, use the filter on the top right corner to view the failed imports.
Use insights from the Errors column to fix the issue on the import spreadsheet.
Once the data has been fixed on the import spreadsheet, reupload the spreadsheet in test mode until all entries are successfully imported.
- Final Upload: After testing the import and fixing any errors, go back to the import page and upload the spreadsheet with Test Mode unchecked.
The import history can be viewed under the History tab on the import page.
